A man has made off with thousands of pounds in cash after breaking into a theme park in North Lanarkshire.

The break-in, at a main building at M&D's in Motherwell, happened at about 2.55am on Tuesday.

The culprit then made off with a "five-figure sum of cash" from the premises and ran off in the direction of the Strathclyde Park loch.

Police say the man responsible was wearing dark-coloured clothing and had his face fully covered during the incident.

Sergeant Neil MacLeod, of Wishaw police office, said: "Our enquiries are continuing today into the theft and to identify and trace the man responsible.

"At this time I would urge anyone who was in the area of Strathclyde Park around the time of the incident in Tuesday morning, who may have seen this man acting suspiciously or maybe saw a vehicle in the area, to come forward to officers as their information may be vital to this inquiry."

Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101.
