Police Scotland is appealing for information following a housebreaking in the Hairmyres area of East Kilbride on Wednesday.

Around 1:30pm police were called to an address in Strathspey Avenue and discovered that the rear patio door had been smashed.

Jewellery and a five figure sum of cash had been stolen from the property.

It's understood a group of three men wearing baseball caps and dark clothing were seen in the area around the time of the incident.

One of the men was also wearing a Burberry scarf and all spoke with Eastern European accents.

Constable Alisdair McCann from the Community Investigation Unit based at Airdrie Police Station said:

“The surrounding area, and the park in Strathtay Avenue, would have been busy with passing vehicles and dog walkers around the time of the incident.

“I would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious yesterday afternoon, especially a group of three men matching the above descriptions, to please get in touch.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact the Community Investigation Unit based at Airdrie Police Station via 101 and quote incident number 1626/26. Alternatively you can call CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence.”
