Children across Glasgow and Lanarkshire are getting into their freshly ironed school uniforms for the first day of the new term.

Schools are back in Glasgow, North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire and East Dunbartonshire while classes are back in other parts of the country tomorrow and Monday.

Sixty-seven primary one pupils are starting at St. Fillan's Primary in Cathcart, including four sets of twins.

Head Teacher, Brian Bourke, said: “The first day back is always a brilliant occasion filled with excitement and anticipation, and this year is extra special for us at St Fillan’s.

"For the first time ever, we’re welcoming four sets of twins into Primary 1.

"We’re expecting double the joy and double the fun and are looking forward to a year full of learning, laughter, and friendships."

Olachi and Olisaeloka Ugwumba are enrolling at the school.

Olachi told Clyde 1: "I'm looking forward to counting and learning the alphabet."

Olisaeloka said: "I enjoy reading and playing princesses."

A total of ten sets of twins are starting across Inverclyde on Monday.

The area has become known as ‘Twinverclyde’ for its high rate of twins.

It is the fourth consecutive year that the twin count has hit double figures.

Provost Drew McKenzie said: “You know it’s back to school time when we start to see this year’s inductees to our ‘twinverclyde’ hall of fame.

“It has become an annual tradition to get our new P1 twins together and it is great fun for them and their family and friends and they all look so resplendent in their uniforms."
