Firefighters battle "substantial wildfire" in South Ayrshire
The blaze was discovered around 1pm on Saturday 6th May.
Firefighters are working to make sure a wooded area near Barrhill is safe following what is being described as a “substantial wildfire.”
The blaze was discovered near Knockytoul farm just after 1pm on Saturday 6th May 2017.
Police arrived on the scene around an hour later to completely close the A714 road nearby due to the extent of the smoke.
A spokesperson from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said crews were still at the scene this morning. (Sunday 7th May 2017)
A warning about the risk of wildfires was put out just days earlier with the dry, warm weather forecast.
SFRS Deputy Assistant Chief Officer Andy Coueslant said: “Many rural and remote communities are hugely impacted by wildfires, which can cause significant environmental and economic damage.
“Livestock, farmland, wildlife, protected woodland and sites of special scientific interest can all be devastated by these fires - as can the lives of people living and working in rural communities.
“Human behaviour can significantly lower the chance of a wildfire starting so it’s crucial people act safely and responsibly in rural environments and follow the countryside code.”
