Train services into Glasgow Central restored after fire crews tackle lineside blaze

All rail services between Cambuslang and Glasgow Central were affected on Thursday night.

Engineers worked through the night to get train services into Glasgow Central are running again after a blaze at Rutherglen which closed all the lines between Cambuslang and Glasgow Central.

The blaze broke out around 7.20pm on Thursday 28th April and the overhead powerlines were turned off shortly after.

Network Rail Scotland posted images on Twitter of the damage to signalling cables at the location which appears to be under a bridge.

Messages they posted said: "Last night, our engineers carried out repairs to the signalling equipment in the Rutherglen area, and services are now able to run as scheduled.

"We continue to review the damage on the line near Cambuslang at this time, with some cable damage already being identified."
