Crews tackling fire at Helensburgh primary school

Blaze in derelict annexe building at Hermitage Primary School

Around forty firefighters have been involved in tackling a blaze which broke out at a primary school in Helensburgh in the early hours of this morning.

It started at the derelict annexe at the back of the building around 5am.

Eight appliances were sent to Hermitage Primary, on Argyle Street, including a high reach appliance,

There are no reports of injuries.

The fire service says it received 17 calls about the incident.

Argyll and Bute Council said in a statement: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is responding to a fire in the disused annexe of Hermitage Primary School in Helensburgh. Schools are currently on holiday.

"We will continue to liaise with the SFRS in managing this situation.”
