Tenement blaze in Glasgow's southside dealt with by firefighters

Five people were given check-ups after the fire in the Cathcart area.

Five people survived a fire in Glasgow's southside earlier this afternoon.

The blaze resulted in a section of Cathcart Road being closed, with firefighters still at the building on Boyd Street to keep the area safe.

The fire on the ground floor was safely extinguished and the quintet of people were cleared after check-ups for smoke inhalation.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were alerted at 1.48pm on Thursday, September 24 to reports of a fire within a three-storey tenement building on Boyd Street, Glasgow.

"Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the scene, and firefighters extinguished a fire which had taken hold within a ground floor flat.

"Five people were given precautionary check-ups at the scene for smoke inhalation.

"Crews currently remain in attendance as they work to ensure the area is made safe."
