Fire crews deal with major blaze in Glasgow city centre
Local homes and businesses were evacuated after flames broke out in an abandoned building in the Tradeston area on Sunday morning
Clouds of smoke could be seen across Glasgow on Sunday morning after a fire broke out in the Tradeston area.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service told Clyde News it received a call at 9.55am about a blaze on Kingston Street.
Nearby homes and businesses have been evacuated, but there are no reports of any injuries.
Clyde News spoke to Andreas, who was among those told to leave his home: “I thought it was from the construction site next door, I thought maybe something fell, but then I heard the fire alarms in my own building start to go off, and I smelled the smoke and I’m like ‘that’s a fire, I need to get out of here’.
“So I made my way down stairs and the receptionist told us, there’s a fire next door, we all need to make our way out.”
Six appliances were sent to the scene to extinguish the flames.
Images and footage shared on social media shows huge clouds of smoke spreading across the city.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue service said: "We received a call at 9.55am this morning to reports of a building fire.
"The fire is ongoing."
Police are assisting the fire service, with road closures in place and drivers urged to avoid the area.
