Firefighters have extinguished a blaze at a former hospital building in Paisley.

Four fire engines went to the scene at the derelict Royal Alexandra Infirmary annexe in Calside, Paisley, when the alarm was raised just before 8pm on Wednesday.

The last appliance left the scene just after midday on Thursday, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said.

There were no reports of any casualties.

Following initial investigations, it has been established that the fire was started as a result of reckless behaviour.

Detective Inspector Ian Ross, from Paisley CID, said: "Whilst investigations are at an early stage, I am appealing for anyone with information about what happened to come forward.

"I would urge anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident, who perhaps noticed people in the immediate area of the building, or anything at all suspicious, to get in touch.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 3004 of Wednesday, 16 March, 2022. You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
