Fire and explosion in Barrhead 'deliberate'

A fire and explosion that destroyed a shop in East Renfrewshire was a deliberate act, police have said.

Officers are appealing for information following a suspicious fire at a premises in Barrhead on Saturday 2nd of April 2016. Around 11.10pm, police received a report of an explosion and fire at the premises, Muscle Junction, in Glasgow Road, Barrhead. The premises were empty at the time of the incident and following an initial joint investigation between Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, officers can now confirm it was a deliberate act. Officers are gathering CCTV images in an effort to try and find out additional detail which could help progress the investigation. Detective Constable Mark Hendry said: “It’s important we establish why this property was targeted and trace whoever is responsible.

"I am appealing for anyone who may have seen someone in the area or near to the premises who was perhaps acting a little suspiciously.
