Firefighters are tackling a blaze which has caused major disruption near one of the country's busiest train stations.

The fire broke out near Central Station in Glasgow at about 4.30pm on Friday in nearby Union Street.

The road was closed as five Scottish Fire and Rescue vehicles dealt with the blaze, which appeared to be on the second floor of a building.

No casualties have been reported, with police and fire officials launching an investigation into the incident.

A Glasgow City Council statement read: Due to a building fire, Union Street is closed to all traffic at its junction with Gordon Street.

Road users are advised to avoid this area and delays should be expected.''
