Fire crews tackle blaze on double-decker bus in Glasgow city centre

Emergency services were called to Renfield Street at around 12.15pm

A man has been taken to hospital after a fire broke out on a double-decker bus in Glasgow city centre.

First Bus was seen on Renfield Street, near West Regent Street, engulfed in flames and with smoke billowing from the vehicle at around midday on Saturday.

The 54-year-old man's injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Two fire engines and police officers responded to the incident and some surrounding streets were closed.

Renfield Street and West Regent Street reopened to traffic at around 3pm.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers are in attendance at a vehicle fire on Renfield Street to assist with traffic management.

"A 54-year-old man has gone to hospital for treatment."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 12.15pm on Saturday, April 23 to reports of a fire affecting a bus on Renfield Street."

First Bus has been approached for comment.
