BREAKING: Emergency services tackle blaze at recycling plant in Kilwinning

It's the second time the unit on Byrehill place has gone up in flames

Dramatic footage is emerging of a blaze at a recycling plant in Kilwinning.

Videos circulating on social media show explosive scenes.

No casualties are being reported ta this stage but emergency services are telling people living near the site to avoid the area and to keep windows and doors closed.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 12.42pm on Wednesday, 9 April, to reports of a large fire within a recycling centre on Byrehill Place, Kilwinning.

“Operations Control has mobilised six fire appliances to the scene and firefighters are working to extinguish the flames.

“There are currently no reported casualties.

“As a precaution, members of the public are being asked to avoid the area and close windows and doors if affected by smoke.”

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “Emergency services are in attendance at a fire at Byrehill Place in Kilwinning and, as a precaution, officers are advising local residents to remain indoors and keep their windows and doors closed as they deal with the incident.

“We would ask residents to continue to follow the advice they receive from the lead agencies and we remain ready to continue to offer any support we can.”

Police Scotland tell us: "Emergency services are in attendance at a fire in West Byrehill Industrial Estate, Kilwinning.

"Motorists and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area.

"Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is advising people in nearby houses to keep windows and doors closed."
