Patients who were evacuated from wards at Wishaw General Hospital, following reports of a bomb threat this afternoon, were allowed back in after it was discovered a faulty alarm caused the scare.

Police were called at 4:40pm after the alarm was activated.

Police officers attended and a search was carried out alongside with hospital security staff.

The building was assessed as secure and the alarm fault was noted.

At the time NHS Lanarkshire told Clyde news the matter was in the hands of Police Scotland but was being treated as a false alarm.

The NHS board also told us there were no health and safety implications and that the hospital was running normally shortly afterwards.
