Phased removal of face masks announced in Scotland
The First Minister has set out a timeline of removing the legal requirement for face coverings in Scotland
Last updated 30th Mar 2022
From Monday (April 4th) face coverings will no longer be required in the likes of places of worship or at weddings and funerals in Scotland.
There is still a wait for that change in places like shops or on public transport though.
The legal requirement to wear a mask will be removed in those settings from April 18th, instead becoming guidance.
Nicola Sturgeon said: “From next Monday 4 April, it will no longer be a legal requirement to wear a face covering in places of worship or while attending a marriage ceremony, a civil partnership registration, or a funeral service or commemorative event.
"And then the wider legal requirement - applying to shops, certain other indoor settings and public transport - will be converted to guidance two weeks later on 18 April.”
