An amber weather warning for heat is in place for parts of Scotland today and tomorrow.
It is set to be warm with mostly unbroken sunshine with temperatures reaching highs of 28 degrees celsius.
Aiden McGivern from the MET Office told Clyde 1: "We are expecting dangerous levels of heat.
"There is a chance the UK temperature record, which stands at 38.7 celsius, will be broken today and it's even more likely tomorrow when they could go as high as 39 or 40."
A red weather warning is in place for parts of England with a danger to life.
Scottish Justice Secretary Keith Brown is urging people to take care over the next couple of days.
"Please take this seriously, we want people to enjoy the hot weather, but there are real dangers in this.
"Your heart has to work a lot harder in the heat to keep your body cool and that can cause lots of extra problems too."
ScotRail has also confirmed some speed restrictions will come into force this afternoon because of the heat.
