Gas explosion at Govan flat being treated as attempted murder
Emergency services were called to Kennedar Drive in the Elderpark area just after 7 o’clock this morning.
An explosion at a flat in Govan is being treated as attempted murder by police.
Emergency services were called to Kennedar Drive in the Elderpark area just after 7 o’clock this morning.
As a result of the blast, two people who were in the flat, a 26 year old man and a woman, aged 30 years, were injured.
The man was taken by ambulance to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary after sustaining burn injuries. Medical staff describe his condition as critical.
The woman was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment to minor injuries. She has since been discharged.
Superintendent Craig Smith, Greater Glasgow Police Division, said: "Enquiries carried out so far have revealed that the explosion was as a result of a deliberate act within the flat. The flat has been significantly damaged, however, the impact of the blast did not affect other properties in the block and the 23 people who had been evacuated have been allowed back into their homes.
"Kennedar Drive remains closed until further notice."
