A nine year-old boy from Ayr has been left too frightened to walk to school or go out and play after he was attacked by a dog.

Iain Stirrat was playing on his bike with friends in the Lochside area around two weeks ago when he fell off and a dog ran over and grabbed his face. It let go after Iain was screaming.

Once home, mum Amanda tried to take him to the hospital but Iain wouldn't go until he visited the friends he was with to make sure they were ok.

When he was seen by medics, deep wounds on his face were discovered.

The dog was never found or its owner traced, despite the incident being reported to the police.

It comes as a Holyrood Consultation on dog control laws closes today.

It was sparked by our 'Lead the Way' campaign to tighten the legislation and help prevent dog attacks.
