Cop26: Erskine Bridge forced to close for the second time in two days
Greenpeace's Rainbow Warrior boat will sail back down the River Clyde
Last updated 2nd Nov 2021
The Erskine Bridge has been forced to close temporarily to drivers once again this evening due to a ship sailing back from the Cop26 climate summit.
Police Scotland have requested its closure for the second time in two days for "public safety" reasons to allow a Greenpeace vessel to pass underneath.

The bridge was shut yesterday for around two hours while the Rainbow Warrior - carrying youth activists - made its way up the River Clyde towards the SEC in Glasgow.
The boat later docked near King George V Dock in Shieldhall, despite port authorities denying the group's request to berth on the River Clyde.

In a statement published on social media today, Traffic Scotland said: "At the request of Police Scotland, the Erskine Bridge will be closed for a short period of time late this afternoon for public safety as a vessel navigates under the structure.
"The closure time will be around 4.30pm, subject to change as it may be affected by local tidal conditions.
"Local diversions will be put in place and the crossing will be reopened as soon as it's safe to do so."
