More than £1,000 worth of sports equipment has been stolen during a break-in at a boys’ football club in East Ayrshire.
Coaches at Hurlford Athletic discovered on Thursday morning that storage containers had been targeted at Richardson Park with padlocks broken off.
Equipment including nets, footballs and hundreds of pounds worth of new boxing gear was reportedly taken during the raid.
Under 13s coach at the club Kevin McDowall, whose son also plays for the team, told Clyde 1 News the children will be devastated: “The boy’s want for nothing usually and they’ll be really gutted about this.
“We’re lucky if we’ve got one ball to our name now, they’ve totally wiped everything out.
“I’m gutted myself to be honest. Our team’s only a year and a half old and we’re independent, we stand on our own feet.
“I’ve actually put some of my own money in as well. It’s disgusting to see.”
But Kevin is vowing not to let the incident get the better of the team, he says: “We’ll have the last laugh, because we’ll bounce back stronger than ever.
“I’m sure people will rally round and we’ll be able to get some fundraising done and we’ll be back.”
Police Scotland have confirmed they’re investigating the incident, a spokesperson told Clyde 1 News: “"Officers were called around 8am on Thursday 7 April 2022, to a report of a theft from changing facilities and a container, at Richardson Park on Barnweil Drive in Hurlford.
"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing."
