Emma Caldwell murder trial in Glasgow adjourned as suspect falls ill
Iain Packer, who is accused of murdering her and leaving her body in woodland, is unwell.
The trial against a man accused of murdering Emma Caldwell near Biggar in 2005 has been adjourned for the day because the suspect is unwell.
Iain Packer is accused of murdering her and leaving her body in Limefield Woods.
Evidence was due to resume today in the third week of the case at the High Court in Glasgow.
But, jurors returned to find Iain Packer, 51, was not in the dock.
Lord Beckett told them: "Mr Packer, overnight, has taken quite significantly unwell and is not fit, so it is not possible for the trial to proceed."
The judge said it was hoped Packer would be back in court by tomorrow. (WED)
Packer had previously fell ill last week causing the case to be adjourned then.
He denies a total of 46 charges involving multiple women and includes the murder of 27 year-old Miss Caldwell at Limefield Woods in Biggar, South Lanarkshire on April 5 2005.
Lord Beckett today/yesterday told the jury that a proposed site visit to the woods has now been delayed to later this week due to bad weather forecast for Wednesday.
He also added unless something "extraordinarily wrong" happens then it appears the trial will be completed in the month of February rather than earlier estimates of it stretching into March, possibly April.
The trial continues.
