Passengers 'not in danger' as plane makes emergency landing at Prestwick
The KLM flight landed at Prestwick Airport
A faulty oven is to blame for a KLM passenger plane making an emergency landing at Prestwick Airport this afternoon. (Friday 15 October)
It was flying from the Netherlands to Canada but had to turn back after smoke was reported in the cabin.
A statement from the airline says, “Flight KL 677, which left Amsterdam for Calgary at the beginning of the afternoon, landed as a precaution at Prestwick International Airport in Glasgow due to a technical defect. Passengers and crew were not in danger.
“The problem has now been resolved, but it is not yet clear when the plane can continue its journey to Canada.
A spokesperson for Glasgow Prestwick Airport said: “We can confirm that KLM677 on route from Amsterdam to Calgary was diverted to the airport this afternoon, as smoke was reported in the cabin.
“We can confirm that the aircraft landed safely and that a faulty oven has since been removed. The emergency services were not required and the aircraft is currently awaiting clearance to resume its flight to Calgary.”
