Elderly man hurt in M74 crash dies in hospital

An elderly driver injured in a crash on a motorway slip road has died in hospital.
The 81-year-old man was travelling south on the M74 in Lanarkshire when his vehicle appeared to lose control and crash into a barrier at around 2.30am on Saturday.
The accident happened as the black Mazda CX-3 exited the motorway onto the slip road at junction nine.
Police said the pensioner, who was taken to Wishaw General Hospital, died on Monday morning.
Officers have appealed for any witnesses to the crash to contact them on 101.
Meanwhile, an 89-year-old woman who died following a car crash in East Ayrshire on Saturday afternoon has been named as Ainslie Exton, from Stewarton.
The incident took place on the A735 near to Lochside Farm, Kilmaurs, at midday on Saturday.
Inquiries into the crash are continuing, and officers have urged anyone who has information to contact them on 101.
