The development of over 800 homes will begin this morning in Sighthill in Glasgow, making it the biggest scheme of its kind outside of London.

The NorthBridge development is part of a ÂŁ250 million Sighthill Transformational Regeneration Area which will feature two, three, four and five-bedroom houses and one and two-bedroom apartments.

The homes will be built by Keepmoat Homes in partnership with Lowther Homes, which will manage the 198 mid-market rent homes on the site.

Once the Sighthill TRA is complete, an enhanced neighbourhood - immediately beside the city centre, just 15 minutes’ walk from George Square - will have been created for existing members of the local community and for the residents of the new development, with almost 1000 new homes of various tenures.

Glasgow City Council Leader Susan Aitken said: “We need new affordable homes in the city.

“We want to grow Glasgow’s population and we need to have really good high-quality affordable homes for people to move into.

“To transform a part of the city which had been left behind for a long time – really that’s some of the best value money that we can invest in Glasgow.”

Councillor Susan Aitken, Leader of Glasgow City Council and Aileen Campbell MSP, the Cabinet Secretary for Communities and Local Government will mark the start of work on the 824 new homes in Sighthill this morning.
