Education needed to eradicate racism, Celtic boss says after Sinclair incident

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has called for more education to stamp out racism as police confirmed they are dealing with a second alleged incident of abuse aimed at player Scott Sinclair.

A man was arrested after making a monkey gesture towards Sinclair as he celebrated scoring the opening goal in Celtic's 5-1 win over Rangers on Saturday while a 17-year-old woman has now been reported to the procurator fiscal over an alleged racist abuse post on social media.

Speaking at Celtic's training ground, Rodgers said: "The racism, whether it is football or society, there is absolutely no place for it.

"For a young man like Scott to experience that, he has been playing the game a long time, so it says something that it is the first time he has come across it in his life.

"The support he has gained from all his team-mates and staff here, and I am sure most players and clubs in football as well, there is just no place for it.

"He is absolutely fine, like I say he has all the support of all the people here and all the supporters, and he moves on from it.

"It just shows you that education is needed in order to stamp it out because it should never come into play as well."

Police Scotland confirmed the latest investigation.

A spokeswoman said: "A 17-year-old woman is the subject of a report to the procurator fiscal in connection with alleged contravention of sec 127 of the Communications Act 2003."

A Scottish Professional Football League spokesman said: "We have received the report from the match delegate at Saturday's Rangers v Celtic match.

"This will be reviewed alongside reports, if any, from the police match commander, the referee and / or his assistants and the clubs involved in the match.

"We welcome the swift action by Police Scotland, which has resulted in a number of individuals being charged under the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act.

"As this is an ongoing police matter, we cannot comment further at this stage."
