Two men have been shot after intruders in balaclavas forced their way into a flat in South Lanarkshire.
The two suspects entered the property in Gordon Drive, East Kilbride, at around 11.05pm on Tuesday and shot a 30-year-old man.
They then approached a 31-year-old man who was in a VW Passat car outside the flat and shot at him as he drove off.
A 30-year-old man was taken to Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride, where he is being treated for a leg injury.
A 31-year-old man was also treated in hospital for facial injuries and later discharged himself.
Another man and woman who were in the flat were not injured in the incident.
Police said both victims were the "intended targets" and are treating both incidents as attempted murder.
Detective Chief Inspector Scott Douglas: "These incidents will be causing concern within the local community and I would like to assure everyone that significant resources and officers are working on this inquiry.
"Both victims were the intended targets and a number of lines of inquiry are being followed up."
He added: "I would appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incidents to contact us.
"No matter how insignificant it may seem, I would urge you to contact us as it could prove vital in our inquiries in helping us trace the men responsible for these attacks.
"Additional officers will be patrolling the area to offer reassurance to local people, if you have any concerns, please speak to these officers."
Police said a number of roads in the South Lanarkshire town remain closed as forensics officers continue to examine the scene.
