Fire crews battle blaze in empty building in East Kilbride

Four fire engines were sent out to the fire in the Glen Road area

Emergency services are battling with an early-morning fire in an empty building in East Kilbride.

People living in the Glen Road area of the town are being urged to keep their windows and doors closed because of the blaze, which started at around 5.30AM.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue service has confirmed that no one has been injured.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 5.23am on Tuesday, 19 March to reports of a fire within an unoccupied building on Glen Road, East Kilbride.

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the scene of the fire.

“There are no reported casualties currently.

“Crews remain in attendance.”

Police Scotland wrote online: "Residents in the Glen Road area of East Kilbride are urged to keep windows and doors closed due to a fire in a disused building.

Officers were made aware around 6.20am and emergency services are at the scene."
