Scottish woman in coma after fall from faulty hotel window in Ibiza
Monica McGeachie was celebrating her 30th birthday with friends on the island.
A woman from Dunoon in Argyll is still in an induced coma nearly one month on after she fell from a window in a hotel in Ibiza.
Monica McGeachie, who works as a diver, was celebrating her 30th birthday on the island with her brother Kent, 33, and six other friends. They arrived at the Piscis Hotel in San Antonio on Saturday 27th July.
The following day Monica was on the first floor in the restaurant area of the hotel when her shoe came off. She tried to lean on a window for support which had its glass pane missing, and fell 12 feet to an enclosed concrete area.
Clyde News understands the security guard at the hotel tried to drag Monica away from the area but was stopped by residents.
It's reported the area was cleaned and fixed within a matter of hours.
Monica suffered multiple injuries from the incident including a brain trauma, a fractured shoulder, fractured wrists and fractured ankles.
Monica's sister Joanne McGeachie, 38, said: "We're a very close family and live in a small town who have all supported us.
"We are devastated that this has happened, but Monica is very fit and healthy and she's fighting really hard.
"The hospital staff have been excellent in caring for Monica.
"The family will be here for as long as necessary."
Staff at the hospital have informed the family that it could be a number of weeks until Monica can come out of her coma.
