A Scottish school has won a European award for entrepreneurial skills.

Dunoon Grammar was awarded The Entrepreneurial Schools (TES) UK award at a ceremony in Helsinki, Finland.

The awards recognise the best schools in the UK and Europe for entrepreneurship education.

This year's ceremony marks the first time a Scottish school has won since the awards began in 2015.

The judges found Dunoon Grammar had embedded enterprise throughout its curriculum and praised teachers' commitment to this.

The school was nominated by the Young Enterprise Scotland (YES) charity, which supports projects including helping senior pupils set up their own company with assistance from local business volunteers.

YES chief executive Geoff Leask said: "Dunoon Grammar School is a great example of what can be achieved through hard work and a recognition of the benefits that embedding of enterprise education can bring to young people in future life and work.''

Head teacher David Mitchell said: "It is a fantastic honour for our young people and indeed wider school community to receive this European recognition from the Entrepreneurial School Award 2019.

"We are delighted the talents and creativity of our pupils have been celebrated in this way."
