An appeal's going out from the Scottish SPCA is appealing for information about a Staffie which was found in Paisley suffering from trauma to her eye.

The female Staffordshire bull terrier called Baillie was discovered on Springbank Road on the 7th March and taken to a local police station.

Chief Inspector Hamish Mackintosh said, "Baillie seems to have been caused trauma to her right eye in the recent past and she will soon undergo an operation to remove it. She is also in lean condition.

"At this stage we don't know how Baillie came to be found alone on the streets in this condition and we are asking locals to help with our investigation.

"If anyone recognises this dog and knows who her owner is we are urging them to contact us."

Causing an animal unnecessary suffering is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006. Anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
