Drunk Who Took Golf Buggy For Spin Faces Jail
A drunk who took a golf buggy for a spin on a main road after consuming nearly five times the legal limit of alcohol has been warned he faces jail.
Colin Peat, 47, was caught at the wheel of the golf cart on Stirling Road, Larbert - which is near Falkirk Golf Course - in June.
He was breathalysed and gave a sample which contained 97 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres - some 4.4 times the legal limit, which is 22.
It quickly transpired that he was also not insured to driving the unregistered vehicle on the public highway.
At Falkirk Sheriff Court, Peat from Bonnybridge, Stirlingshire, pleaded guilty to drink-driving and driving the golf cart without insurance.
The court heard that Peat's record revealed he was a serial motoring offender.
Sheriff Craig Caldwell deferred sentence without hearing a prosecution narration or defence submissions, saying it was "inevitable" that he would need background reports prepared on Peat before disposing of the case.
He told Peat: "You were nearly five times the limit, and at that level you shouldn't have been anywhere near a cart -- let alone driving one.
"This is your third significant road traffic offence within a few years.
"It is clear there will be a substantial period of disqualification, but standing your record and the substantial reading I am going to consider all options including custody."
Sentence was deferred until November 12th for the preparation of criminal justice social work reports.
Outside the court, Peat said: "It was a golf cart - no comment."
