Man charged after drugs and firearms seized in Lanarkshire

Officers recovered guns and cocaine at a property in Blantyre

A 28-year-old man has been arrested and charged after cocaine with an estimated street value of £147,000 was recovered in Lanarkshire.

Officers searched a property at Knightswood Terrace in Blantyre on Tuesday, 30 January.

As well as the cocaine, a quantity of cannabis items was also recovered, with their value still to be confirmed.

A number of firearms were also seized which have been removed for further testing and to be made safe.

The 28-year-old is expected to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Thursday, 1 February.

Detective Chief Inspector Steven Elliot said: “This is a significant recovery and is an example of our efforts to disrupt the trade in illegal drugs in Scotland.

“It also underlines our commitment to the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce and the country’s Serious Organised Crime Strategy.

“We would continue to urge anyone with information or concerns about firearms activity in their area to contact Police Scotland on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
