Police are searching for a gang who boxed in a driver, tried to force their way in to his car and stole his keys in Rutherglen yesterday.

A 42 year-old man was driving a Vauxhall Insignia west along Woodside Avenue at around midday when he was cut off by two other cars - a dark coloured Mokka and a silver Corsa - at the junction with Selkirk Avenue.

It was at that point a man wearing a high vis jacket approached the driver's car and striked his windscreen and passenger door with a hammer.

The driver of the Corsa then got out and tried to force his way in to the back seats.

The pair demanded money and stole the driver's car keys before making their escape.

The keys have since been recovered, but officers are now reviewing CCTV footage and making door to door enquiries.

Detective constable Martin McKissock from Cambuslang CID, said: "This robbery was clearly a planned and targeted attack and it is imperative that we find those responsible.

"We know there were people in the area at the time of the incident and in particular we would appeal to a woman who go out of a dark coloured car with a red roof to come forward as we believe you may be able to assist us in our enquiries.

"Anyone who was in the area and saw any of these three vehicles, or a man wearing a high vis should come forward and contact us."

Information can be reported to Cambuslang Police Office via 101, quoting incident number 1365 of Thursday 21 December 2017. Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained
