Driver fighting for life after horror crash in Airdrie

The person behind the wheel of another vehicle also injured

A male driver is fighting for life and another is injured after a smash in Lanarkshire last night.

Police raced to the scene in Airdrie just before 9 after reports a silver Nissan Qashqai hit a parked van in High Street before driving onto Aitchison Street where it collided with a red Nissan Qashqai.

The driver of the silver vehicle was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment to what was described by medical staff as life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the red vehicle was taken to Monklands Hospital for treatment.

The road was closed for around eight hours while investigations were carried out.

Sergeant John Houston from Road Policing said: “Our enquiries are continuing and I am appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and who witnessed the crash and hasn’t already spoken to police to get in touch.

“I would also ask anyone who was driving in the area at the time and who may have dash cam footage which could assist us to contact us.”
