Douglas Ross fears missing birth of second child after self-isolating
The Scottish Tory leader was in contact with someone has tested positive for Covid
The Scottish Conservative leader has told us he fears missing the birth of his second child after being in contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid.
Douglas Ross was alerted this morning while at Holyrood and is now self-isolating in an Edinburgh hotel:
“I was taking part in a virtual meeting when I received a text message from someone who I’d been with on Monday to say that they had tested positive for Covid-19. Knowing I was with them on Monday, I thought the safest option was to immediately self-isolate.”
Five members of staff and four other MSPs are to get tested as a precaution.
The decision to self-isolate will also keep Mr Ross away from his Moray home where his wife Krystle is due to give birth in three weeks:
“The real worry is that my wife goes into labour while I’m in here, or I’m just not at home to help her as we expected me to be on Thursday evening. Before I went onto my virtual call, I was having a FaceTime with her and Alistair and I thought one more sleep and I’ll get home to see them, but now it’s going to be a few more sleeps before I can get home.”
But the Scottish Tory leader is hopeful he has a bit of time on his side:
“I’m not sure what would happen, somehow I’d be watching it on Facetime and I don’t think anyone would be very with happy. Fingers crossed, her due date is three weeks yesterday so hopefully we’ve got a bit of time, but it is still a worry.”
He is expecting to take part in First Minister’s Questions virtually tomorrow.
