Detectives have launched a murder inquiry following the suspicious death of a man in Strathaven, South Lanarkshire on Tuesday 11 July 2017.
Around 1:30pm yesterday, a 43 year old man was found seriously injured in John Hastie Park, Strathaven. He was treated by paramedics for his injuries, however unfortunately, he died at the scene.
The man can be named as Jason McCue of East Kilbride. Relatives are aware.
A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Bell, senior investigating officer, said:
“At this time, we believe that the man who died was the intended target and that this was not an opportunistic or random attack, however, that does not make it any less serious or catching his killer of any less importance to us.
“From our enquiries so far we know that there had been a disturbance in the park involving at least three men and the man that died.
“It was a brazen attack, in the middle of the afternoon and in a very public place. There were a good number of people in the park at the time, thankfully none of whom were injured during the attack, nonetheless, it was shocking and upsetting for them to witness.
“Officers are checking CCTV in the park and the surrounding area to trace those responsible as well as speaking to people in and around the park.
“There has already been a good response from the public but we are still keen to hear from anyone who has information that will assist our enquiry.
“Information can be passed to officers via 101. Please quote reference number 1548/11/07 when calling. Witnesses can also call Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
Inspector Jim Gillespie of South Lanarkshire Division added:
“I would like to reassure the local community that my team of uniformed officers are working closely with DCI Bell's team to help identify who is responsible. There are additional officers in the park and in Strathaven so if you have any information or concerns regarding the incident, then please speak to them."
"The family of Jason McCue are deeply saddened by his untimely death."
"Jason was a much loved son, brother, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed. The family have asked for privacy at this time to come to terms with their loss."
