Detectives investigating armed robbery in Airdrie

Officers have launched an investigation after an armed robbery at a store in Airdrie.

It happened on Cairnhill Road at around 7.25 this morning.

Two men entered the store with a knife and metal pole and threatened staff before leaving with a three figure sum of cash along Bellsdyke Road.

They are described as being around 17 to 19 years of age, of slim to average build and were dressed in all black clothing, including black hooded tops, gloves and face masks.

Detective Sergeant Mark Nelson said: “Thankfully no one was injured as a result but this was a frightening experience for the staff involved.

“Enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible and we are appealing for anyone with any information which may assist to get in touch.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time or who has any information which may help us to identify the men, to contact police.”
