Detectives are hunting a car which drove the wrong way down the motorway after a police pursuit.

Officers stopped the car, a white Citroen C4, on the Broomielaw near Finnieston Street in Glasgow at around five past midnight into Saturday.

However as they approached the car, it sped off and performed a U-turn before heading up Finnieston Street.

Officers pursued the vehicle which drove through various streets, including St Vincent Street, across the Kingston Bridge, West Street, Scotland Street and Seaward Street.

It eventually drove up the off ramp of the M77, at which point police abandoned the pursuit due to safety concerns.

The car was last seen on the M77 at J2 near Silverburn.

Police said their inquiries have so far revealed that the vehicle is using a false registration and appealed for information about the incident.

Detective Inspector Steven Watson said: " am appealing to motorists and taxi drivers for any further information on the car and its occupants, in particular those with dash cams. I would ask you to check your images as you may have captured footage which could prove to be important in our inquiries.

"If you have any information on this incident or the vehicle, please do get in touch.''

Officers are in the process of gathering and reviewing CCTV footage for any additional information on the people in the car and to try and find out where it drove to.

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 0031 of April 24 2021, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
