A war memorial in the east end of Glasgow has been petrol bombed, one month before it was to be unveiled to the public.
Police found the stonework in Dennistoun's Alexandra Park set alight early this morning, after a fire burned through the tarpualin which covered the design.
The tarpaulin melted into the stonework while the notable gold leaf on the memorial has been damaged.
Experts are set to arrive at the park this afternoon to decide if the stonework can be saved, and at what cost.
Jim Watson, chairman of the Dennistoun war committee said: "Words can't explain how disgusting it is that someone has chosen to do this.
"But we will go ahead, we will have the unveiling ceremony. We're not going to let this people win."
The stonework had only been put in place two days ago, with the memorial scheduled to be unveiled on 29 September.
Police Scotland are carrying out an attack into the investigation.
