Bull dozers have arrived at Glasgow’s Fruit Market to demolish the part of the building destroyed by a blaze last week.

Some of the damanged units will be brought back into use but some are beyond repair and will be knocked down.

The work means the Sunday Car Boot Sale is cancelled for a second week running

"Our immediate priority continues to be the provision of the necessary support to our tenants so that trading continues unhindered at the markets.

"Following the return of the site by the emergency services to City Property, our team has worked diligently to assess the areas damaged by the fire.

"A number of units have been identified for reinstatement, however to facilitate this the area’s most severely damaged will need to be demolished. This commenced on Thursday afternoon.

"As a result of these ongoing works and to ensure public safety, Sunday’s Car Boot Sale has been cancelled. We will reassess early next week and provide an update by midday on Wednesday.
