Death of woman, 81, at house in Irvine being treated as murder
Police arrested an 82-year-old man in connection with the incident on Macara Drive on Sunday afternoon
The death of an 81-year-old woman at a house in Irvine is being treated as murder.
Emergency services were called to a property on Macara Drive in the town just after midday on Sunday, where the 81-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
An 82-year-old man was also found injured at the scene, and was taken to hospital for treatment, with police later confirming he'd been arrested in connection.
Officers now say they are treating the woman’s death as murder.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 12.10pm on Sunday, 11 February, 2024, we were called to a report of the death of a woman at a property in Macara Drive, Irvine. "Emergency services attended and the body of an 81-year-old woman was found within.
"Following a post mortem examination, her death is being treated as murder and an investigation is ongoing.
"An 82-year-old man was found injured at the property and taken to hospital for treatment. He was arrested in connection with the incident."
