"Death in a packet" - Kilmarnock family fight against drugs which killed their son and brother

Ross Highet, 47, died in June 2017.

A Kilmarnock family has been left heartbroken at the death of their son and brother, who battled an addiction to New Psychoactive Substances or so-called “legal highs.”

Ross Highet passed away on June 27th 2017.

The 47 year-old was found in his flat surrounded by packets of the drugs and though a post mortem hasn’t yet confirmed the cause of death, it’s suspected he took a fatal cocktail of the substances.

His mum Maureen and sister Lian told us more...

Ross battled the addiction for 6 years and often bought the substances on websites and on social media.

Just a quick search on Facebook for example shows how readily available the drugs can be.

In a bid to raise awareness and support other families going through anything similar, Ross's family have began a charity in his name.

The Ross Highet Foundation is only in the very early stages of being set up. The family is appealing to anyone who may be able to help them get up and running so they are able to help families.
