Death of man in Wishaw being treated as murder

A murder enquiry has been launched after a 51-year-old man died following a disturbance outside a house in Wishaw in the early hours of Sunday morning, 14 October 2018.

Around 12.30 am Kevin McGuire was in Morar Street when he was attacked by at least two men who got out of a black Nissan X-Trail car which had been driven into the street by another man.

He sustained serious injuries after suffering a number of stab wounds and was taken by ambulance to Wishaw General Hospital where he later died.

His relatives are aware.

Following a post -mortem examination officers launched the murder enquiry and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Officers are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area and carrying out house-to-house enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Specially trained Family Liaison Officers are with Mr McGuire's relatives.

Detective Inspector Carol Craig, of Police Scotland's Major Investigation Teams, said:

"This was a violent attack which cost Mr McGuire his life.

"This does not appear to be a random incident and I am content that he Mr McGuire was the intended victim and this was indeed a targeted attack.

"Nonetheless I am appealing for anyone who was in the area and has any information that will help us identify the group of men responsible.

"If you witnessed the attack you should get in touch with Police Scotland as soon as possible via 101, quoting incident 0175 of 14/10/2018."
