Staff at a Shawlands bakery, which raised thousands of pounds to support the relief effort in Ukraine, have been rewarded with tickets to Scotland's match against Poland tomorrow.

More than £87,000 was donated after Deanston Bakery arranged a bake sale earlier this month.

They have also been gifted a signed Scotland shirt, which has since been auctioned off, to raise even more.

The national team were due to play Ukraine in the World Cup play-offs on Thursday, but the match has been postponed because of the ongoing conflict.

The bakery's Ukrainian owner, Yuriy Kachak, said: "A lot of people want to help. It started with a bake sale and raffle tickets and we managed to reach £36,000. Then a very generous donor came on board and matched that total so we doubled our figure.

"It's sad and I wish we didn't have to do it. For the first two weeks I felt a bit lost. I don’t really know what to do but doing something keeps you busy. You feel anger and a certain element of guilt. Many people feel like that but you do what you can to help."

Money from ticket sales for tomorrow's friendly match against Poland, at Hampden Park, is being donated to UNICEF.
