The daughter of a hillwalker missing for more than two months has said he will be remembered as a “doting father” and “a true hill lover” after the family was informed about the discovery of a man's body in the Cairngorms.
The daughter of a hillwalker missing for more than two months has said he will be remembered as a “doting father” and “a true hill lover” after the family was informed about the discovery of a man's body in the Cairngorms.
Police Scotland said on Friday that the body was found on Thursday night in Glen Lui, Aberdeenshire.
The family of James Robertson, 61, known as Jim, from Cathcart in Glasgow, has been told.
Writing on Facebook, Lynn Robertson said: “Although formal identification is yet to take place, I'm completely heartbroken to say that it was our dad who was recovered from Creag a'choire Etchachan.”
She thanked all those who have supported the family and praised the rescue volunteers who worked tirelessly to help find her father.
Ms Robertson added: “I'd like to ask that our dad is not remembered as 'a body found in the Cairngorms' but as a doting father, an adored brother, a loving son and of course a true hill lover.
“A kindred spirit has reached out to our family with these touching words 'He will be soaring with the Eagles above the mountain tops. What a view he will have.' Soar high Dad x.”
A major search operation was launched - involving more than 80 volunteers from mountain rescue teams, along with specialist search officers, search and rescue dogs and a coastguard helicopter - when Mr Robertson was reported missing in March.
The experienced hillwalker was believed to have stayed in the Bob Scott Bothy in Glen Lui, about eight miles from Braemar.
Mountain rescue teams continued to search for Mr Robertson after his family accepted he would not be found alive.
The family have raised more than £11,600 for Braemar Mountain Rescue Team (BMRT) through an online charity donation site in memory of Mr Robertson.
A statement posted on the Braemar Mountain Rescue Team Facebook page on Friday said: “Today the team assisted Police Scotland in recovering a body which was found in the Loch Etchachan area in the central Cairngorms.
“The Robertson family are aware and our thoughts are with them all at this time.”
