The dates for the world's biggest cycling event in Glasgow next year have been officially revealed.

The UCI Cycling World Championships will take place from the 3rd-13th August.

The inaugural event will bring together 13 different cycling disciplines at locations such as the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and George Square.

Chief Executive Trudy Lindblade told Clyde 1: "It is a major milestone for us and we have been talking about August 2023 for so long.

"People will now be able to start planning for the 11 day event."

The schedule for the event will be announced in the coming weeks.

Trudy added: "A lot of planning is going into this because it has never been done before and that is exciting in itself.

"Cycling is an accessible sport in the sense that local communities in Glasgow will be able to watch from the side of the road.

"We will be looking for volunteers to help with this event, but we are also looking for local suppliers who can help us too."
