Don't let dull dates get in the way of romance

First dates are tough enough without stressing out about where to go but if you have a first date in Glasgow, there are oodles of great places to choose from. Here's your guide to fun by the Clyde, including activities, events, music and restaurants… Food & Drink... The Research Club The Research Club is a relaxed lounge bar bringing craft beer and cocktails to an intimate West End hangout. With room for no more than 70 there’s always an intimate atmosphere to this Hamilton Drive venue, with friendly service matched by a good selection of craft beer, cocktails and bar snacks. Waxy O'Connor's Glasgow For a quirkier first date, Waxy O'Connor's is the place to go. Although the bar sprawls over three floors, six bars and nine spaces, it manages to maintain a warm feel. Stunning carpentry shoots up out of the floors and the ornate stained glass which adorns the ceilings and walls add to the intimate atmosphere and give you a talking point with your date - bonus! Tabac Tabac is something of an illicit lounge on the Glasgow bar scene. Dark, mysterious and clad in a seductive style, Tabac forms the perfect backdrop for your first date if you're looking for something a little atmospheric and less bright eyes and doughy. Drinks come in all shapes and sizes with palatable plates to match should your date be going well. There's even a secret bar known only as the Panther Milk Bar...curious. Brel Brel dishes up the perfect marriage between cosy, intimate venue and beautiful outside space so you can make the transition between Winter-warming date and alfresco Summer session. Charming, a lush green garden and a gorgeous menu of delightful foods should keep you and your fate busy. Boasting friendly and informal vibes, Brel is ideal for a more laid-back first date approach. The Lane Bar @ The Grosvenor If you like the comfort of a movie date, but still want to leave room in the evening for a little getting to know one another, then the Lane Bar is a nifty first date location in Glasgow. Not only has this Ashton Lane bar got a built-in cinema, but it has great (and thrifty) cocktails, tasty snacks, and one of the finest music selections in the city. Scope out your dates, movie taste, music taste and mojito taste all in one go.

Something different... The Golf Lounge We love dates that actually involve "Doing Something" it takes the pressure off having to look perfect and say the right thing. So if you're looking to combine a drinks date and an activity outing in one, why not show off your swing and take your date to Golf Lounge. Playing virtual golf is a fun, kooky way to get to know one another, and of course, it goes without saying, teaching golf moves has unlimited flirting potential. Drink craft beer in a meg-brewery Although you’re technically drinking we thought we’d include this in the ‘doing something’ section because we have an idea… with more than 24 rotating beers on tap here and some 200 more bottle, a beer hall and terrace why not ask to try a few – drink responsibly of course – but sample some recommendations and enjoy yourselves whilst avoiding any awkward silences by perusing the menu. Use your head Impress your date and take then to ‘Escape Glasgow’ where you’re locked in a room and you can only escape by using your mind – perfect to impress you date, or for a giggle! Dinner and a show Oran Mor is an arts and entertainment venue in Glasgow’s West End based in a refurnished Victorian Church. There is food and drink available as well as a host of theatre performances to see and enjoy. At only 45 minutes long it’s a great place for a date and to get comfortable without all the pressure of dinner right away. Things to see... Go Gothic in the East End Glasgow cathedral was consecrated in 1197 and has survived ever since. It’s impressive and makes a great talking point for visitors. Take a look inside at the gothic architecture before ambling among the monuments. Look out over the city and wonder, toast to your date – pack a picnic and a bottle of fizz – for a date to remember. See a big movie, big Head over to Glasgow’s Science Centre on the south bank of the Clyde at Pacific Quay to see a film on the biggest screen in Scotland. The Cineworld IMAX at GSC shows a variety of different movies which are well worth a watch and it’s an occasion to remember. Count the heads at Kelvingrove This is Glasgow’s most popular tourist destinations but that’s not to say residents can’t enjoy it too. The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum opened in 1901 – and recently added a new exhibit by Sophie Cave – ‘floating heads’. Why not go see and count all the stark white heads, we’d tell you how many but who doesn’t enjoy a bit of friendly competition? Music King Tut's Wah Wah Hut is a mighty concert room for up-and-coming local bands and cult international acts serving its own lager and a platform for promoting bands at club level. Its something special - open seven days a week at a reasonable hour – you can enjoy some live music and then still have time for food and a few cocktails.

So now you have the venue all you need is a date to go with.
