Cyclist stabbed during attack by group of men in Renfrewshire

A cyclist has been stabbed and another injured during an attack by a group of men in Renfrewshire.

The two men were cycling near Nether Johnstone Small Holdings in Milliken Road, Kilbarchan, on Wednesday night when a group of up to eight men approached them.

The cyclists were injured following an altercation - which police said appears to have been unprovoked - and were both taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for treatment.

One man aged 37 suffered a number of serious injuries including stab wounds, while the other aged 29 suffered facial injuries.

Police are appealing for information about the incident which happened at around 10.20pm on Wednesday.

Detective Inspector Ian Ross said: "This attack appears to have been unprovoked and we are carrying out extensive inquiries to identify those responsible.

"Anyone who was in the area on Wednesday evening and may have seen or heard a disturbance or who has any other information is urged to come forward.
