Cyclist in hospital with serious head injury after Cumbernauld crash

Road closed for four hours - Police are appealing for witnesses

A cyclist has been left with a serious head injury after a crash in Cumbernauld in the early hours of this morning.

The incident happened around 10 past midnight, on Seafar Road, near to the junction with Dowanfield Road.

The 42-year-old male cyclist was travelling southbound on Seafar Road when he came off his grey Cannondale mountain bike.

He was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with a serious head injury.

The road was closed for around four hours to allow for crash investigation work to be carried out.

Sergeant Roy McCarney of the Road Policing Unit said: “We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash and haven’t already spoken to officers to come forward.

“We are also appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and who has dashcam footage or any other information which may assist to get in touch.”
