Cyclist who died in crash with a lorry in Glasgow is named

UPDATE Monday 30th January - Police have named a cyclist who died after a crash involving a lorry in Glasgow city centre as 22-year old mma Newman, from Moulineaux in Paris.

Emergency crews were called to the Broomielaw just after 10am on Friday morning.

The cyclist was taken the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital by ambulance and was pronounced dead a short time later.

The road was shut until around 7.25pm that evening.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said:

“We were called around 10.10am on Friday, 27 January, to a report of a crash on Broomielaw, Glasgow, involving a cyclist and a HGV."

“Emergency services attended and the cyclist was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital by ambulance and was pronounced dead a short time later."

Appeal for footage

Sergeant Paul Mellis said: “Our thoughts are with Emma’s family and friends and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“I am appealing to anyone who saw what happened and who has not yet spoken to officers to get in touch, particularly if you have dash-cam that could assist with our investigation.”
